Russell Lee Jackson, a native of Manchester, England, was brought up among a long line of ballroom dancers. His grandparents, Tom and Olive Danson, were ballroom competitors, as well as his parents, John and Jacqueline Jackson. At the age of five, Russell trained and traveled with his father, John - a prominent British dance figure renowned as an adjudicator and examiner.
Russell's highly successful dance career is both rich in its variety and solid in its fundamentals - from international style Latin & Standard dance competitions and expanding to pioneering Showdance performances. In 1996, Russell came to the US and immediately adopted dance styles such as Lindy Hop, Salsa, Hip Hop & Argentine Tango - training the US Lindy Hop Champions. He also trained many collegiate ballroom teams - including Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, and Brandeis University. He coached the Brandeis Ballroom Dance team for two years, establishing them as the most prominent club within the University.
Russell is qualified to teach International Latin, Standard & American Rhythm & Smooth. He is a member of the United Kingdom Alliance of Teachers of Dance (UKA), the National Dance Council of America (NDCA), is ProDVIDA certified, and is a qualified Adjudicator. Russell is known for his choreography and has produced professional shows at prestigious competitions across the US. He is currently training social and competitive dance couples, amateur formation & showdance teams, and working with & alongside predominant dance studios within the US and England. He worked at Fred Astaire Dance Studio, co-founded Supershag Productions, and is the owner of Avalon Ballroom Dance in Belmont, MA.
